Hospitality and Attention to Details
My family asked LocalBound Japan to arrange private tours in Tokyo, Shimizu and Kyoto/Kobe, where our cruise ship docked. They customized each itinerary, taking time in advance to learn our needs and preferences.
Megumi, our knowledgeable local guide, treated us to a wonderful sushi lunch. She even introduced me to a green tea beer. I must say, she really knows where to get good food and good drinks. Their hospitality and incredible attention to details win you over.

Deeper, More Meaningful Journey
I cannot recommend LocalBound Japan strongly enough. If you’re looking to experience and explore Japan including but also beyond the big cities, Megumi is the tour guide for you.
From the beginning, she listened to our
trip goals and ideas and helped integrate them into our itinerary; it was clear that this trip was going to be something special. Instead of rushing through crowded tourist spots, we explored quiet small towns, hidden neighborhoods, and places we never would have discovered on our own. Each stop felt thoughtfully chosen and deeply meaningful, offering a genuine window into local life, history, and traditions. In Matsumoto, for example, we had a Japanese history lesson while sitting on the grounds of Matsumoto Castle. She told us stories and folklore and brought places and ideas to life.
What truly set this experience apart was Megumi’s deep knowledge of Japanese culture and regional history, paired with a warm, approachable, and engaging style. Stories were brought to life in a way that felt personal, often spontaneous rather than scripted, and questions were always welcomed and answered with care and insight. I learned not just what I was seeing, but why it mattered.
Megumi also had an incredible ability to connect us with locals—whether it was chatting with restaurant owners or visiting family-run businesses. She arranged for us to attend a lovely cooking class that I enjoyed thoroughly, and we also visited a wonderful acupuncturist. We sampled a huge variety of Japanese specialties that were delicious, including street food. These moments were highlights of my trip and created memories that will stay with me forever.
Logistics were seamless, pacing was perfect, and everything felt relaxed yet well-organized. It was clear that Megumi genuinely cared about creating an experience that was authentic and unforgettable.
If you want to experience the real Japan—its small towns, quiet beauty, and everyday magic—using Megumi is an absolute must. I would book her again without hesitation and recommend Megumi to anyone seeking a deeper, more meaningful journey while they visit Japan.
